From the Randall (Herbert) Freedom Summer Photographs. Photograph (positive image of a negative) of volunteers and local African-American activists participating in a meeting held in a large room with square pillars in an African-American church. Second from the right is volunteer Johnanne 'Johnnie' Winchester (Baltimore, Maryland; a student at Cornell University), whose responsibilities included voter registration education. On her right is volunteer Barbara Schwartzbaum (New York City; a student at City College of New York), who was a teacher in the Freedom School at Morning Star Baptist Church in Hattiesburg. The third person to her right is local African-American activist Gracie Hawthorne, a voter registration worker. To her right is Paula Pace (Greenwich, Connecticut; a student at Bryn Mawr College), who taught in the Freedom School at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Hattiesburg.
