From the Randall (Herbert) Freedom Summer Photographs. Photograph (positive image of a negative) of a group of Freedom Summer volunteers and local people singing at a fish fry hosted by local civil rights leader Vernon Dahmer on July 4, 1964, on his property in the Kelly Settlement north of Hattiesburg. Those identified in the photograph are: Hattiesburg resident Marie Blalock (center), Hattiesburg resident Johnnie Pearl Watts (right of Blalock), and volunteer Bob "Soda Pop" Ehrenreich (foreground). The Dahmer fish fry marked the beginning of Freedom Summer in Hattiesburg.
